Take ALL books with a pinch of salt ...

This is yet another book on the complicated area of alcohol / alcoholism / addiction, but leans towards helping the lighter drinker with a minor problem with alcohol. The book is misleading in that the title says control (ie moderation) but really is geared towards total abstinence (My advice is that if you do have a problem with alcohol your goal should be total abstinence anyway). The book trys to get you to think that alcohol tastes bad and that it does nothing for you.......well if it tastes bad and does nothing for you I dont think that it would be the biggest drug on the planet do you?
My advice if you have a problem with alcohol is to...
1: Set a goal of abstinence (because you dont think logically when you put alcohol in your system and you are prone to think "what the hell" and drink more once under the influence - as pointed out in this book I might add).
2: Study addictions to have a greater understanding of them, read all you can. But take each book with a pinch of salt, you will find out that they conflict different opinions...use your own mind to decide whats best for you.
3: Quit hanging out in tempting / slippery places or with people that are a negative influence to your well being.
4: Get outside help if you think you need it...A.A. , a counseler, see your GP, or talk to a close friend (a problem shared is a problem halved)(especially if you feel you drink due to life problems and not just for pleasure).
5: Get into personal development books and set the bar higher for yourself. Set goals in life and give yourself something to aim for this will help you to replace the time you will now have with positive projects that will make you happy :)
6: Keep a diary of your feelings.

...and add anything else YOU think would help you (why not get some pens and paper out today and brainstorm some ideas / goals for yourself).

I hope you never give up trying to give up. It is hard otherwise books like this would not exist. But you can acheive your goal of QUITTING alcohol .... controlling alcohol is playing with fire in my opinion if you have a problem with it (you must have otherwise you would not be reading this book?).

Life free from addiction is fantastic....you just have to find your OWN path :)
