Reviewer: A readerI first heard of Allen Carr from a colleague who was the 5th person in my team to read his stop smoking book and successfully give up. Amazed at the success, I was curious enough to want to read the book even though I had already given up. When I realised there was a control alcohol book, I knew I had to read it.
I wasn't a heavy drinker - far from it, but when I did drink I always drunk too much. Allen Carr challenges the way you think about alcohol and does little more than open your eyes to the reality of alcohol and it's seductive powers. Based upon fact, it delves into the chemical make up of alcohol and proves that it is no less an addictive substance than nicotine.

Having read some reviews that are discouraging of the book and disagree with his ideology, I can only think that the point of the book has been lost on them. There IS only one way to control alcohol and that IS to not drink it. What Allen Carr strives to achieve is to show you the benefits from doing so and to help you feel happy about the decision you have made.

In years that have gone by, I have "given up" and always resented the fact that I had, it didn't take me long to fall off the wagon again. This time I haven't given up - I simply choose not to drink alcohol because I don't enjoy it and have no reason to drink it. I often drunk to make myself happy (the "drown my sorrows" drink), I don't have any "sorrows" to drown anymore because instead of clouding them over with a few pints, I've tackled them head on.

On 17th April 2005 I had my "final drink" - I remember that day not because it's the last time I had a drink, but because it was the day I changed my life for good. I would recommend this book to anyone who is open minded enough to take in what the author says and challenge the beliefs that are pushed on them by society.
