17 Aug 2004 Reviewer: A reader
I hate reviewing books I like. It's always easy to say what's wrong with a book, but harder to do a good book justice in a few short sentences.
Now there is plenty wrong with this book. Sometimes the author uses the wrong words. He says 'schizophrenia' when he means 'ambiguity'. He uses the word 'relaxants' to describe tranquilizers. He talks about the ostrich sticking its head in the sand, although he admits he's never seen one do this. But these are just quibbles. The author doesn't claim to be an expert. And when did an 'expert' ever help you with your drink problem?
Like you, I'm not and never have been an alcoholic. But when I picked this book up I was a heavy drinker who had recently realized that I no longer controlled my drinking; in fact the drink was controlling me. I bought this book because it didn't have the words 'quit' or 'give up' in the title, and 'easy' was the clincher.
The author really does deliver what he promises, so don't be put off by the early chapters where he seems to be selling you the solution without telling you what it is. There is plenty of red meat here, so stick with it. You really can control alcohol and yes, it is easy.
